You Must Be This Tall. . .
Amylyn posed the question: "What are/were your dating requirements? What do/did you expect when looking for a man to date, what is your stereotypical "perfect" man?"This question is right up my alley. I've been dating since I was 14. I like dating. No, actually, I LOVE dating. I'm the one who has all the hilarious bad dates and the 'awww.. how romantic' moments that my friends want to hear. I'm the carefree Singleton in a sea of Smug Marrieds.
When we were in our 20s, my friends and I had a summer of sixes.
Any potential date had to be at least 6 feet tall, born in the 60s and make 6 figures. No exceptions. Boy, was that a fun summer.
I'm much older now. {much, much to some!}
I still have a height requirement. I'm 5'7". I want a guy I can wear heels around. 6 feet is still my minimum. I dated a guy who was my height for awhile. I could never get past the unnatural feeling of having my nose above his when kissing if I had shoes on and he didn't.
I've dated athletes, officers, stoners, white collars, blue collars, older, younger, frat boys, scholars, guys stuck in the time warp of their glory days, and too many Grateful Dead fans to count. I've dated guys I met through friends, from the internet, in bars. I've been fixed up on blind dates with guys who should NEVER have been allowed to date.
If I'm flipping through a People magazine, George Clooney, Colin Firth, John Cusack are the ones who catch my eye. Tall, dark, handsome, smart, funny.
Overall, I prefer the company of tall, funny, smart, witty, athletic, confident men who can keep up with me intellectually, challenge me, and enjoy being out in the world doing lots of different things. Those men are hard to find. That's why up until very recently, I was a serial dater. Sort of like Carrie Bradshaw but without all the shoes or the slutty friends.
Now I'm dating a fantastic guy who is tall, funny, smart, witty, articulate, kind, considerate, romantic, musical, adventurous. He makes me laugh. He makes me think. He makes me mixed drinks and chocolate mousse. He's even been known to make the bed.
Somehow, six months has flown by. I'm still committment phobic, but I can honestly say I'm enjoying being in a serious relationship.
Oh, and I've always had a thing for redheads. ;)
