It's Contagious!
Yes, my friends, the photography bug is contagious. It seems I've passed it along to my dear boyfriend.
Handed him the camera at Walden Woods this summer. He took some terrific shots.
And handed the camera back.
Occasionally he'd ask to take a shot or two when I had the camera out.
Newport. Wareham. Montreal.
We returned to Walden Woods in October. He took some terrific shots.
And some more and some more.
It's a thrill watching him get into something new. He's a quick study. The combination of technical knowledge and artistic instinct is perfect for him. That it is an interest we can share is an added bonus.
He says that lately he sees things and thinks "that would make a great photograph." He looks back on his photos and wonders what settings he used to make two shots of the same scene look so different.
Now he's contemplating purchasing a Canon EOS 20-D.
Quite a jump from using a disposable camera every now and then. But I'm certain he will not regret the decision.
Now I'm sure you're thinking, of course she's happy. He'll make the purchase and she'll use the camera.
Nope. I'm still really happy with my 35mm Rebel Ti. I know the 'instant feedback' of the digital would be a terrific learning tool for him. It would be fun for us to be able to shoot side-by-side and then compare points of view and choices of apertures and shutter speeds.
Who knows? Maybe watching him have so much fun with digital will nudge me into purchasing a Rebel XT body sooner rather than later.
Until then, I am happy to stand on the sidelines and hold the camera bag for the man trying to capture the perfect light with my camera.

Tandem digital/SLR photography...Now there's a thought Christi! You'd get the instant feedback from his shots and adjusting your settings and I don't know...I still have a niggling suspicion that negatives will last longer than burned CD's.
