Big Blue Flashing Lights
So I'm driving to chorus on Monday night along the back roads. Notice a cruiser parked on a side street with its lights off. Don't think much of it because - for once - I was going slightly below the speed limit on that road.About one minute later there are the big blue flashing lights behind me. I pull over to let him pass. No big deal. For once I don't get that panicked feeling of 'yikes! what did I do?'
And he's not going around me.
I've blocked a driveway in my haste to let the cruiser by. And now have to edge up along the side of the road.
Man, are those lights bright. Especially that searchlight thing on the driver's side.
Now, keep in mind that my driver's side window does not work. This is not a good thing when being pulled over. I roll down the rear driver's window as the patrolman approaches to tell him such. I have to hand him my license and registration. Of course the registration is somewhere below the Dunkin Donuts napkins and AAA maps in the glove box. It's nerve wracking searching for that little piece of paper when your heart is pounding a mile a minute and a flashlight is streaming in the car against the pitch black night sky.
Turns out my license plate light was out. Now how was I to know that? I can't see back there when I'm driving.
Was it necessary to do the whole C.H.I.P.S. scene for this? To take 10 minutes to run my license and registration? To burn my retinas with those flashing blue lights?
The young officer told me that all 371 towns in the Commonwealth were on hightened patrols because of the holiday weekend. Did I mention this was MONDAY before Thanksgiving?
I was now 10 minutes late for chorus. I decided not to ask for a police escort.

I hate that for you! Did he give you a ticket or a warning....seriously it must have been slim pickins for him to pull you over for that!
he didn't actually GIVE you a fix-it ticket for that did he?? please tell me he didn't... and just so you know, I got pulled over on Saturday night because I was speeding through a residential neighborhood.... but he let me go with a warning, too....know why? 'cause I'm just SO DANG CUTE!...or...er...okay, so not that... because I was following my dad and wasn't watching how fast we were going and while he was looking up the registration and liscense he heard the rather sarcastic conversation I had 'thanking' my dad and he said he hadn't laughed that hard in a long time while being about to give a ticket and so I was free to go, but to remember that little kids ride their bikes and he didn't want me squishing them.... :) .... I could just have seen the officer in your case..."um, excuse me, officer sir, would you mind posing next to my license plate and pointing at the burnt out lightbulb? I want to get a picture so I can scrapbook this moment..." heh.
You described that awful feeling very well. Yuck, brought back memories. I'm with Wendy, I hope he didn't give you a ticket!
